Booking Intents
Track early-stage engagement before prospects become leads
Booking Intents
Booking intents track visitor engagement with your booking links before they complete the booking process. This gives you visibility into your booking funnel and helps identify drop-off points.
What is a Booking Intent?
A booking intent is created when someone interacts with your booking link. It tracks their journey through the booking process:
┌─────────────┐ ┌─────────────┐ ┌─────────────┐ ┌─────────────┐
│ PAGE │────▶│ SLOT │────▶│ CONTACT │────▶│ BOOKING │
│ VIEWED │ │ SELECTED │ │ STARTED │ │ COMPLETED │
└─────────────┘ └─────────────┘ └─────────────┘ └─────────────┘

Funnel Analytics
Conversion Rates
Track drop-off at each stage:
Example Funnel:
─────────────────────────────────────────
Page Viewed: 1,000 (100%)
Slot Selected: 600 (60%)
Contact Started: 450 (45%)
Booking Completed: 350 (35%)
─────────────────────────────────────────
Overall Conversion: 35%Drop-off Analysis
Identify where visitors leave:
| Drop-off Point | Possible Causes | Actions |
|---|---|---|
| Before slot selection | No good times, confusing UI | Review availability, simplify |
| Before contact form | Commitment hesitation | Add social proof |
| During form | Too many questions | Reduce required fields |
| Before submit | Technical issue | Test booking flow |
Time to Complete
Track how long the booking process takes:
- Average time per stage
- Total time to complete
- Correlation with conversion
Intent vs Lead
Understanding the difference:
| Aspect | Booking Intent | Lead |
|---|---|---|
| When created | Page view | Booking complete |
| Contact info | May be partial/none | Complete |
| Pipeline stage | Pre-pipeline | In pipeline |
| Can schedule calls | No | Yes |
| Appears in reports | Funnel only | All reports |
Relationship
Booking Intent ─────▶ Lead
(tracks) (creates)
One intent can create one lead.
One lead links back to its intent.Using Intent Data
Retargeting
For abandoned intents with partial data:
- Can't contact directly (no complete info)
- Use for aggregate analysis
- Inform ad retargeting strategies
Funnel Optimization
Use intent data to:
- Identify drop-off points
- A/B test booking page changes
- Optimize question flow
- Improve availability display
Attribution
Intent captures attribution before lead exists:
- UTM parameters on initial visit
- Referrer information
- Device/platform data
This data transfers to the lead when booking completes.
Best Practices
Monitoring
Daily:
- Check conversion rates
- Review significant drop-offs
- Monitor for technical issues
Weekly:
- Analyze funnel trends
- Compare booking link performance
- Review abandoned intent patterns
Optimization
- Reduce friction: Fewer required fields
- Show availability clearly: Avoid confusion
- Mobile-friendly: Test on all devices
- Fast loading: Optimize performance
- Clear CTAs: Guide visitors through
Testing
When making changes:
- Note baseline metrics
- Make one change at a time
- Compare intent funnel data
- Roll back if conversion drops
Privacy Considerations
Data Collection
Booking intents collect:
- Page view data (standard)
- User choices (slots, form inputs)
- Device/browser info
- Attribution data
Data Retention
- Incomplete intents: 30 days
- Completed intents: Linked to lead, follows lead retention
- Abandoned intents: 30 days
Compliance
- No direct PII until form submission
- UTM data is non-personal
- GDPR/CCPA compliant collection
Troubleshooting
Missing Intents
- Check booking link is active
- Verify tracking script is loaded
- Check for ad blockers (may affect tracking)
- Review browser console for errors
Incomplete Data
- Session may have timed out
- Visitor may have left before stage
- Technical issue prevented capture
High Abandonment
- Review form for errors
- Test the booking flow yourself
- Check availability is showing
- Verify mobile experience
